When I joined Tier4 Group this summer as a Marketing & Communications Intern, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. As an Advertising and Branding graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), I was familiar with marketing strategy, design, and storytelling. What I wasn’t familiar with was the recruiting industry.

Everything was new. The terminology, industry trends, audiences, and business challenges were completely different from anything I had experienced before. What I quickly discovered, however, was that this internship would be far more than an introduction to a new industry. It would become an opportunity to contribute meaningful work, learn from experienced leaders, and gain confidence as a professional.

Trust Is Essential to the Intern Experience

One of the first things that stood out to me was the level of trust Tier4 Group placed in its interns.

Rather than being limited to observational tasks, I was given opportunities to work on projects that had a direct impact across the organization. I contributed to presentations used by executive leadership, messaging and strategic initiatives, internal communications, branding efforts, and company-wide assets.

I also had the privilege of participating in meetings with C-suite leaders and department heads. Seeing how decisions are made at the leadership level gave me valuable insight into the collaboration, alignment, and review processes that happen long before a project reaches the finish line. It was eye-opening to see how much strategic thinking goes into every initiative.

As the summer progressed, I experienced first-hand the fast-paced nature of the business. Multiple projects, competing priorities, and tight deadlines challenged me to adapt quickly and become more efficient. Fortunately, Tier4 Group’s innovative approach to technology and AI provided an environment where I could learn modern tools and streamline my workflows to keep pace.

While I developed a variety of technical and creative skills during my internship, the most valuable takeaways were lessons that extend beyond any single project.

Ask Questions Early and Often

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that curiosity is an advantage.

There were many moments when I found myself facing unfamiliar challenges. More often than not, the difference between moving forward confidently and starting over later came down to simply asking questions. Seeking clarification and feedback from teammates helped me produce stronger work, avoid unnecessary mistakes, and continue learning throughout the process.

Build Relationships Beyond Your Team

Some of the most valuable conversations I had happened outside the Marketing department.

Connecting with recruiters, sales leaders, executives, and other team members helped me develop a broader understanding of the recruiting industry and the role each department plays in delivering value to clients and candidates. These interactions reinforced the importance of networking, collaboration, and learning from people with different experiences and perspectives.

AI Is Becoming an Essential Skill

If there’s one skill I didn’t expect to develop as much as I did this summer, it was learning how to effectively leverage AI.

As workloads continue to increase and businesses move at greater speeds, AI has become an important tool for improving efficiency, accelerating research, enhancing creativity, and reducing time spent on repetitive tasks. At the same time, I’ve learned that successful AI adoption still requires human judgment, critical thinking, and creativity. Understanding how to work alongside AI is quickly becoming a valuable skill across every profession, especially marketing.

Of all the opportunities I had during my internship, my favorite was contributing to the rebrand of Sales Talent Group (STG).

During my internship, Tier4 Group finalized its acquisition of STG, and I was fortunate to be involved in helping refresh and expand the brand. I worked on elements of the new brand identity, including logo development, color systems, social media assets, internal resources, and launch materials.

I never would’ve expected to be entrusted with a project of that scale as an intern, which made the experience especially meaningful. Throughout the process, I gained a deeper appreciation for what goes into company-level branding decisions, from ensuring alignment with the broader Tier4 Group and Retained brand family to preserving the unique personality that makes Sales Talent Group distinct.

Seeing the final logo, assets, and launch materials come together was incredibly rewarding. More importantly, the experience showed me how strategic thinking, collaboration, and creativity come together to shape how organizations tell their stories.

As I wrap up my internship experience, I’m leaving with far more than portfolio pieces and project experience.

This opportunity has strengthened my confidence as a young professional and allowed me to contribute across a wide range of strategic and creative initiatives. From podcast production and presentation design to branding, social media, internal communications, and AI-enabled workflows, I’ve gained hands-on experience that will continue to shape my career moving forward.

Most importantly, I’ve learned that growth happens when you’re willing to step into unfamiliar situations, ask questions, embrace feedback, and continuously adapt.

I’m grateful to everyone at Tier4 Group who invested their time, knowledge, and encouragement throughout this journey. The lessons I’ve learned, the relationships I’ve built, and the experiences I’ve gained will stay with me long after this internship ends.

And while this chapter may be coming to a close, I’m excited for what’s next.
